Activities of the Centre:
Since the inception of Centre of Disaster Management in SKIPA, Ranchi, four training programs have been conducted as briefly described here:
1. Training Program on Disaster Management from 24th-28th September, 2007 |
A total of 30 participants from various State Government Departments, Administration & Organizations have participated in the training. The objectives of the training were to impart knowledge and skill to the participants relating to Disaster Management while apprising them about the disaster profile of the state. The pro-active approach of the government of preparedness and mitigation was stressed upon against relief and rehabilitation for better management of any impending disaster situations. |

2. Training Program on Sphere Project for Disaster Management from 29th to 31st October, 2007 |
A total of 35 participants from Government, Semi government, School Teachers, NGOs etc participated in the training. The program was organized in collaboration with Sphere Project, UNICEF, NIDM New Delhi and SKIPA, Ranchi. The objective of the training program was to orient the participants about minimum standards of disaster response in the sectors of water & sanitation, Food Aid, Shelter and – non food items and health and nutrition for disaster victims as per international humanitarian charter of the Sphere Project. |

3. Training Program on Psychosocial Care in Disaster Management from 17th to 18th December, 2007 |
| A total of 15 participants comprising of CDPOs, School Teachers & NGOs participated in the training programme. The objectives of the training were to impart knowledge and skill on Psychosocial aspects of Disaster Management while apprising them about the disaster profile of the state. The participants were informed about various dimensions of psychological and social aspects of disaster impact and ways to minimize and manage that. An expert from RINPAS, Ranchi was invited to deliver the inaugural lecture. |

4. Training Program on “Mining Hazards” from 15th to 18th January 2008
|
A total of 32 participants from Government Departments and District Officials participated in the training programme. The program was organized by SKIPA, Ranchi in collaboration with National Institute of Disaster Management, New Delhi. The objectives of the training program were to orient the participants about
Mining Hazards afflicting the mining industry across Jharkhand and sfety measures to be taken to avoid disasters. A field visit to Piparwar Coal Field was also organized in collaboration with Central Coal Field Ltd. (CCL) to give hands-on experience to the participants regarding coal production, washing, distribution and safety. |
